Chapter 19: Piece of Return
[Kazai's perspective]
It's midnight time now, I wanted to go outside for a bit. I've slept enough.
The night skies are so beautiful, I can even see the stars at night, but only a bit of them. Everyone seems to be sleeping in their home now, except Zach's house.
I don't know about a constellation, but I think I can see a full constellation on the sky.
Hmmm... I looked at the picture taken at the evening. It looked so beautiful, I looked really good in there! Haku also looked cool! I thought about something, why is Katasu active? I'll try to text her real quick.
She didn't reply. I'll go traveling somewhere around. Maybe the souvenir shop?
No one's here. But there's another house with lights on. It seems to be Kimazu's house, and I heard some crying there. The door suddenly opened.
"Kazai... Can you deliver this box to my sibling Katasu? I don't know where she is, but I hope she's safe..." Kimazu came out and read my name plate, while crying. "Hey Kimazu, what happened?" I said. "I'll never see Katasu again..." Kimazu said, and ran away. "Kimazura-! Wait!" I tried to chase Kimazu, but he ran away.
Kimazu's related to Katasu, that's why he's a cat-person. I know why cats run away or hide somewhere, it's a sign that they're dying... But I didn't manage to stop him.
"Kimazu, if you really died, rest in peace." I said, and made an unhappy face. I don't really want to open the box...
But I sent the message to Zach's house, I think Katasu's in there, and I notified Katasu about the box. Kimazu made something fall down on purpose, and it's a chess piece. It doesn't look like anything an actual chess piece, as I remember when I played chess with Dettonotto as a kid.
I searched it up. It's a boomerang chess piece. Feeling the meaning inside of it, I think it means "If you can find a way to meet each other again, please find me."
I sat down on a bench to look at the stars, while I'm still unhappy. Then a shooting star appeared. I wished "I wish everyone could be happy."
Nothing changed. But sometimes a shooting star will grant my wishes. In this case, It doesn't. But, the strange chess piece reminds me of something. My entire family's dead, and the only family member left is Dettonotto, who isn't truly a brother.
If I could find a way to meet them again, I will find them, no matter what.
"Ah!" I said. I saw a hallucination, it looked like... Kimazu? Is he still alive?
I tried to run in the direction Kimazu ran to, but I couldn't find him. He's gone, completely. Even though I know he's gone, and I haven't knew him yet... He's Katasu's sibling. I want him to return to Katasu for them to be happy...
I'm crying... Why can't everyone just be happy? But It's impossible to make everyone happy...
What did Kimazu go through to be like this? I guess I should place the chess piece at the front door as well, as a sign.

...
Family... huh... I don't even remember what they look like! But as I remembered, they used to treat me kindly.
A letter suddenly appeared at the manhole.
[Kazai, don't worry about me. I'm gone now, don't even try to find me.
From: Kimazu]
That was the only message in the letter.
I ran to the souvenir shop, and nothing's here. There are so many stains of blood, and a bloody knife.
I hope Katasu's okay after Kimazu's dead. I wrote a letter.
[Katasu, please don't be sad. -Kazai] I wrote, and put it at the front door.
I really want to go to the Sea of Memories, as I hope that I could still find my dad and my mom there. I really miss my old friends back in Naiko High School. I remember I used to take care of the cornflowers in the garden there. Cornflowers are my favorite flowers, I even stole one of them from the garden!
I checked the manhole, and got down to the sewers. Kimazu's really gone... but I got an alarm clock which seems to be left behind by him. I don't know what this means. I got up to the ground and sat on the same bench from before. I saw an interesting alley.
