Side Story 2, Chapter 4: Lantern

[Side Story 2, Chapter 4: Lantern]

[Slam!]

There's a sound of someone trying to break into my door! Oh god… Choosing the first room was a bad choice!!! I don't wanna die!!!

[I heard a sound of a gun]

Wait, did someone just shoot him? Wait… That was my trap.

Oh no, if I stay here, people are gonna find me! I need to escape somewhere…

I can somehow teleport, but I can't teleport to the place where something is blocking the way. It's only for me to escape faster!

Another person is coming, I can hear his footsteps… I can peek through the peephole.

Is he really thinking I'm hiding in a… There's no time, let's take this person down!

[I stabbed the person's back and kicked him]

If I stay here, I'm just going to get cornered!

[I grabbed Naiko's waist and ran as fast as I can, then teleported to the alleyways]

Damn, I'm so exhausted… At least I still have my Wi-Fi connection.

I need to report to the police real quick.

[I called the police, they won't pick up]

"Come on!!! Just pick up already!!!" Someone screamed. It appears to be someone hiding in the alleyways too.

"COME ON!!!!"

He threw his phone to the floor. I was concerned, so I walked to him.

"Sir, are you okay?"

"OF COURSE NOT! THESE STUPID POLICE AREN'T PICKING UP!!!"

"Hey, first thing, stay quiet next ti-"

Suddenly, a group of people with guns ran towards us. I immediately teleported away and threw a landmine at the floor.

He tried to run away, too. But he got shot in the leg. An air barrier appeared and blocked the way! I tried to carry him away to safety, but I couldn't lift him. "Thanks, kid. But I can control the air to launch both of us up into the sky."

"Who are you?"

"I'm a magic student who's studying wind magic, and I'm an exchange student from America."

"Why aren't you going to Ritsurin?"

"Wait… I mistaken this for the city of wind. So… Ritsurin is the city of wind?"

"Yes!"

"I'm planning to go there tomorrow. But you seem like a good friend, do you want to go there with me?"

"No, thanks. Naiko is my hometown."

"Also… Who's this yellow-haired girl next to you?"

"Actually, it's this city's spirit guardian!"

"This place has spirit guardians too? How powerful are they?"

"More powerful than the gods!!!!"

"H-huh? Spirit guardians are stronger than gods? That's impossible, are you joking?" That guy chuckled.

"Trust me, when they get the crystals back, you'll get to see their full power."

"I-interesting. Anyways, my name's Derie, see you soon, I guess."

The student used his wind powers to blow himself away, but I still have to run.

[All the street lights turned off]

Aahh!! I'm scared of the dark!!!

[There are gunshot sounds… Everywhere!!!]

I started to run away to the statue of Naiko. Suddenly, I bumped into someone with a lantern.

"R-Raiyumi?"

"Yes, it is me. I'm currently aware of the situation, and soldiers from Pantora are going to catch them. Ms. Koiya called the troops here. Be careful, there's a lot of them here."

I looked at the statue. Looks like the crystal has not been retrieved… But why did someone retrieve the crystal of Natoruyo so fast?

That must be god's luck. Or, as I like to say it, a spirit guardian's luck.

[I looked at the news]

Looks like the crystal of Naiko is snatched again… Can I really save Naiko from disappearing?

Waaaa… I don't like crying, because it makes me look like a weak person, but I cried anyway, because I couldn't hold back my tears anymore.

"Kasuri, what happened?"

"I…"

"Hm? We need to get outta here, this place is not safe."

I looked at a corpse. It was that food truck owner's sister. That food truck owner is Luca…

"Sis!!! Wake up, I won't just let you die here!"

"..."

"MINA!!!!"

I slowly looked back at Raiyumi again.

"I hate it when someone dies, it hurts to see their corpse…"

[I wiped my tears.]

"It's okay, Kasuri. Let's go." Raiyumi held my hands and ran away to a safe place. That was really sudden, so I just screamed.

I must be safe for now, unless they manage to break in.

"I'm not feeling well…" Naiko trembled, and then fainted. Raiyumi, who felt bad for both me and Naiko, filled her soul with the pure light of hers, then Naiko smiled again.

I think she fainted because of her lack of light in her soul. It doesn't matter at all if they're a spirit guardian of Darkness, you still need light in your soul. It keeps the spirit guardian healthy and happy, and the crystal seems to be the source of it.

When Naiko hugs me, she obtains some of the light in my soul, and my heart resonates with her soul. I don't know why it is like that, but still.

I somehow never run out of light in my soul, and I somehow have this pocket watch here. I can adjust the time here, but there's no need since Katasu said it's perfectly accurate.

There's still madness going on outside. I wish Naiko won't disappear… The history books said if there is no crystal on the spirit guardian's statues, someday, the spirit guardians will disappear forever.

We need to bring the crystal back as soon as possible.
